An aquarium air pump is an electronic appliance that pumps air into your aquarium which can be used to power air-powered items like air stones, bubble decorations, and sponge filters.
How does it work?
The simplistic way a big aquarium air pump can be put to use is concluded in three steps.
- On and off magnet switch
- The lever is controlled by that magnet switch
- As the lever advances, it pumps a diaphragm (basically a rubber vacuum cup) into the air pump, sucking in the air and pushing it out.
Types of Air pumps
Plug-In air pumps: The most popular type is this one. Simply connect it to your power cord, turn it on, and it will pump air into your aquarium constantly. There is no on/off switch on plug-in air pumps. They run until you unplug them once they’ve been linked to your outlet.
Battery-operated air pumps: Battery-powered air pumps are bought in additament to plug-in air pumps as a backup in case the power goes out. They’re also great for transferring fish when you’re moving due to their small size. We found that all of the battery-operated air pumps we evaluated were incredibly loud.
Battery Backup air pumps: The most highly-priced type could be the key to saving your aquarium. The previous two air pumps have been merged into a single unit. When you plug this air pump in, it will continue running until the power goes out. It switches to battery power when this occurs.
The air pump is mounted on the outside of your aquarium and delivers air through airline pipework, a long hose. As a result, air pumps are not water-resistant and must be handled with caution. Both marine and freshwater terrariums can use the big aquarium air pump.
